Made Some Long Distance Contacts Today!! I'm Hooked

Well finally got my Maxx2000 up and my 980 back from tune up. Got the chance to talk all the way to Canada today from Mississippi. It was awesome. Any ways I go by 158 in the Magnilia State. One funny thing though is I called a operator that was on AM but I was picking them up on LSB. How's that work? Still a newbie.

Yes when you make your first skip contacts they are great. AM signals can be heard on SSB but not the other way around. SSB'ers are usually on channels 36 to 40 and AM channels are 35 and below. I am usually listening on 38LSB, give me a shout, check my signature for what I go by.

Congrats man. The first dx contacts are awesome, and surreal. When you realize you just talked across the country to someone with a low watt radio and thin piece of metal, it's pretty damn awesome. Give me a shout out when you get a chance. Maybe one day our signals will cross. I'm high speed, 556 in the Bluegrass state of Kentucky. I'd love to chat it up. I'm usually on in the mornings (7-8am) for a bit and then again around 5pm. But I always hop on on lunch between 12 and 1. Always eastern standard time for me. I'll be on 38LSB during my lunch. I have a mountain I drive up on to eat and try making contacts. Haha.
