First check your grounds. GROUND!! GROUND!! GROUND!!

If your still getting the poping noise or noise from your alternator. Go to radio shack and buy yourself a ground loop isolator filter.

I ran a wire from the chassis of my radio to the little screw in the middle of the wall outlet my power supply is plugged into. That got rid of my noise problems.

Don't do the noise chopper. I learned the hard way that it is junk. I will chop 80% of the noise, but will also chop 20% of the signal.

There are decent TVI type filters, but that ain't it.

Is your RF gain turned all the way up? If you turn the RF gain down a bit, are you still able to hear decent signals?
Is the sound that you are hearing more like a hiss, or a crackling sound?
Does the sound stop with the coax disconnected?

and to add to that: is the noise on every channel?

How close are you to powerlines or anything of that nature?

Sorry, missed the part about base. Noise chopper will block you signal like they said. Try a 3 prong extention cord and try another outlet in the house or bypass the power supply and take a car battery and see if you still get the noise. Power supply could be back feeding.

Good advice KEEP-IT-REAL,

Choirboy is running an unusual antenna installation, that just sprouted much larger ears, an A-99.

If I "crank up" the Receive Gain on my radio, I get a bunch of noise too. But, that noise is normal. It's in the air. I can hear traffic lights changing with it cranked up that much. I can hear 5 watt mud-ducks 15 miles away, that are buried in atmospheric noise, with it turned up that much. If I re-install the Wilson Silver load (fiberglass antenna), the noise disappears, but so does much of the signal.
When I turn down the receive gain to a barely noticeable level, any decent radio will come in just fine.

Does the noise change if the antenna pipe is either grounded or un-grounded? If you are grounding to piping, or the buildings electrical ground, I am wondering if the buildings electrical system is sending noise up from the ground wiring?
