m+2u help

#354925

Post by woodynova »

I picked up some used mics and one was a Turner M+2u wired for a 4 pin cobra, I picked up a new battery and hooked it up to my radio, everything seemed ok until I had someone talk on it while I listened from another radio. It transmits nice for about 3 seconds then loses modulation, the battery tests good and works perfect in another mic.
Any ideas on the problem?

Hello woodynova,
Welcome to the forum. Try another battery, unless you tested it under a load it could read good, those 7 volt batteries are cantankerous. You can look up the mic at CB Tricks to find a schematic for it.
as a new member could you go to the "Welcome to the Forum" topic, [Please login or register to view this link] , and post a small intro to the site, other would like to say "Hello".

Try a 12v garage door remote battery...The 7v's are hard to come by, and the 12v's will fit right in...I use the 12v battery's in all my Mic's that call for 7v's... You can find them at Walmart.

Thanks guys, the same battery works great in a plus 3 mic I also have, I will try the 12 volt battery also. I have a feeling a component is going bad though. I just love the feel of the old +2 Turner.

Could be just the Mic...I've bought several of those old Mic's off ebay that were suppose to be NOS stuff, only to find that they must have been stored some place hot, because the rubber around where the cord go's into the mic would be brittle and dry-rotted... and the elements would be the same....One thing about electronics, age takes it's toll whether the item is still in new condition or not.

I did score a Turner Road King 76 a few months ago off ebay that was NIB, and it actually works great!
