Can't choose a mic!!
Ordered a SWP'd Galaxy 33HP2 from RadioActive today, and now I need a kick-butt mic to go along with it! I've looked at all of them, SkyThumper, 636, RK56, Stryker NC, everything until I'm blue in the face..
The general consensus seem that the Astatic 636 is the choice mic for this radio, and since I have a deeper voice, I'm sure it would be best for me. I've heard the RK56 makes you sound deep, so deep voice + deep mic isn't good for me I don't guess. I've read mixed reviews on the Thumper', and have heard nothing on the Stryker mic that's new. I'm going to be running the radio in a small pickup truck, that isn't loud at all. So, I'm unsure if I really need a mic that has insane NC abilities. I do know I don't want a power mic though. I have a D104 M6B, but it's pointless to run a power mic when you can only turn it up a notch because of the radio being so hot. I tend to eat mics too, so a power mic probably wouldn't be best.
Help pls??

Re: Can't choose a mic!!
Its kinda hard to say because it really depends on how your voice responds to the mic.....I've got a little higher tone and the RK 56 makes my voice sound a bit deeper and more of a full tone. The 636 didn't respond quite as well to my voice altho it worked really well......if your voice is a bit deeper the 636L might just do the trick! That's what I'd suggest.
Whatever goes around, comes back around.......sooner or later.

Re: Can't choose a mic!!
Yeah thats what I was thinking.. Everything I've read says the 636 sound tinny. But, with a deeper voice like mine, it should bring it up into the mid-range a little bit better, which would be a good thing. I have a RK56, and while I like it, I'm not a fan of the "glossy" texture. I like how the 636 feels.

Loved the test! Did you ever try testing the Wilson Noise canceling microphone?...SmallTruckBigRadio wrote:Astatic is the best bang for the buck.

The reason I ask is because that's what I use and I get great reports.
Re: Can't choose a mic!!
Hello trails053, Thanks
I haven't tested it. I really haven't heard about it either.
Is it supposed to be good?

Re: Can't choose a mic!!
If you can find an Astatic 575-M6. Grab it. They stopped selling them. I use it on the ham bands and they think I am running a high end mic. It's a power mic. It has lows and sounds very natural with that "punch" to get through the noise. Some of them can't believe I am running that hand mic. I need another one so I can use it on CB. I use a D104 hooked to a TRAM D64 mobile and it does ok but that 575-M6 does wonders.
