Desprite to get on the air

#221479

Post by MacGyver »

With the winter and the weather I haven't had a chance to get up on the roof and set up my new starduster. I have been trying to think of a way to set something up just to get me on the air. I have a barn that I was thinking of putting a mobile unit in but the barn has a metal roof. So I am thinking about taking my magnet mount antenna and sticking it on the inside of the metal roof upside down. Not sure how well this would work but any other thoughts or ideas would be great.

Inside the building it just wouldn't do very well with that metal roof. Now if you put it on top of the metal roof that would be aok and work.

Spring is just a few weeks away good luck on the antenna project mine starts March 29th when we take a full weeks vacation
Its not a real radio unless it has tubes and USB/LSB on the front panel ....

It'll work...not great, but it will work. I've talked to a friend that had a mag mount on a 55 gallon barrel for a couple of month's. Not very efficent.

Another alternative would be to put the starduster together and put it in a tree, or on a pole somewhere in your yard? If you have a chain link fence you can bolt it to a post. There's lots of options. Like PE said, spring is just a few weeks away.

Think MacGyver Think ! What would the real MacGyver do ? Antenna has no ground plane in the attic .. Use the metal roof on the barn !!!!!
Thats what The Real MacGyver would do.... then adjust length of antenna for swr.
The higher the channel " frequency " the shorter the antenna so on channel 1 the antenna is longer than channel 40
