CB radio nostalgia

#194592

Post by Turbo-T »

While surfing the net today I cam across a few websites that deal with CB radio nostalgia.

This website has all sorts of cool pictures of old CB radios from the 70's onwards, maybe even a few 60's models in there too, not sure:

And if you have an older model Cobra radio, this site has some dates on when some of the radios were avaliable:

Pretty cool there Turbo T.

I like the "Class D Transceiver Kit".

Lookin back at those prices man, that was a fortune for a radio.

The good old days ... when you could actually buy a radio kit from Radio Shack and the people working there knew a resistor from a diode.

Remember all the military surplus electronics?

Ahhhh .... The Good Old Days.

I still have my first CB radio, it is a Knight kit 6 channel crystal radio that was assembled in the late 60's. My father bought it from someone he worked with in 1973. The workmanship is superb in my opinion, the power transformer is bad but it is a real sweet piece of radio history.

On those radios did you just "pick" the channels you were going to be on instead of having all 23?

yeah you either bought all the crystals and changed them to what channels you want or you just bought the ones you wanted and put those in

Was it cheaper to own a "pick your channel" radio as opposed to getting all 23 channels ready to roll?

I was cleaning my radio area up and got out 2 old pieces I have. The first is a Maco 300 amp that my grandfather ran in his semi in the early '70s, he had a guy in Monteagle, Tn. that did his radio work. The second is a 6 channel kit radio my father got for me when I became interested as a pre-teen, it DKed 1 watt and swung to 4!
