OK, I will try to explain this the best that I can!
I have a TS 350 which drives my TS DX1600. I normally keep the overall dk between 100w and 200w. While I was having two of my radios worked on, I put in my galaxy 44. Everything was working great while the radios were out! When I got my two radios back, one being a galaxy 88 (for use with the TS boxes) and the second being a GL ( for use with my DM 2x4), I plugged in the 88 into the line up with the TS boxes and I had a dk of 1000w (and yes the mic gain was all of the way down and I tried the variable on the 350). I then swapped out the radio to the GL and placed the DM 2x4 in the line, it also showed a dk of 1000w (and before with the galaxy 44 it was around 400-500w). I cannot seem to find the cause of the problem! I thought it may have been my antenna system, a 102 & spring mounted dead center behind the cab. 1.3 is the highest reading for my SWR's. I have changed out two of my jumpers and the 20ft line of coax to the antenna was put in about 4 months ago. I am using 213 coax throughout the truck.
Today I went in and took the 102 off and placed my 10K back on the tri-mag and place it back on the roof. SWR's checked out. I tried the galaxy 88 and TS amps, but still the same! Threw the galaxy 44 in its place and still had the high dk, then once I got to the house, it was reading good.
Now with just the ts 350 amp ON, it seems to work like it should. Using just the 88 and the TS 350, I was able to do a check and was said it was working but they noticed a slight squeel.
Anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on here? This is driving me nuts, not being able to figure it out!

Those amps probably want a deadkey around 1.5 - 3 watts from the radios. If the radios are setup to hit the amps with 5 watts or more deadkey, the amps deadkey could go from the 500 you mentioned, to the 1000 you are seeing now.
The GL has a switch that can go to low power. Hopefully the radios are set up so that low power can get you down to a 1-3 watt barefoot radio deadkey. I hope that you can fix this with the flip of a switch.
If the shop that set up your radios assumed that you were not running amps. they may have set up your low power deadkeys too high. I hope that is not the case.
Have you checked barefoot deadkey yet? Have you double checked the H/L power switch on General Lee?
Do the other radios have H/L power switches, or variable power?

My sweet 16 does about 200 watts just on 4 watts drive, about 475 with 10 watts in, and with as little as 80 it is around 1000 watts. The specs say 100 watts in for 1200 out, so if you're throwing that much in carrier wise, that's what you'll see. I find that the 100 watt area is the "ceiling" on mine in that any more in doesn't increase the output on my wattmeter, so I figure why push it. -drdx

pretty hard to diagnose long distance, but since there is a slight
squeal, my suspicion is rf feedback. I don't know what was done
to the radios you had worked on...but if limiters were clipped or the
modulation was driven really high, you could be getting feedback.
Ground also may be an issue.
If you used to run this combo and it worked well...what variables
have changed? I'd look there first.
