Re: What do you consider essential to your workbench?
Nice looking bench! Good find!
We moved to a new house a little over a year ago and I have been given a room to set up a tech bench and have not yet made a priority out of it. I have been thinking of getting a fairly large, fairly plain solid core door and making a wooden stand to hold it up. Some of it for work surface, some of it to "shelve" to hold test equipment and "what-have-you". I'd like to find some ideas for that.
As far as test equipment considered "essential".... I don't have one yet but may make one.... may buy one.... and ESR meter for testing electrolytics. I already have a great scope, several decent multimeters, an audio signal generator. I'd like to learn to do alignments right so I have to believe that a decent RF generator and a frequency counter will be in there somewhere......

Re: What do you consider essential to your workbench?
Yes, I'm way too busy lately getting things ready for snow and cold, but I had to quickly post some of the goodies I've collected for that work bench.
I actually have a few more things than shown in the pictures, but right now there's the BK Precision 2120B 30 MHz O'scope and the Tektronix 2235 100 MHz O'scope. An interesting story about those. I bought the BK first and it worked great! Then I saw the Tek 2235 for a low price with a make an offer on it. I made a ridiculously low offer on the Tek and they accepted, and I paid. It was advertised as NO ACCESSORIES. I got the original probes, the original power cord, a small accessory set, and a new 1X probe. The condition speaks for itself. A small scuff on the top, but once again it works great! I used to use these Tektronix scopes in the Air Force, and they really are something. I guess a digital scope will be a real upgrade, or I will stick to this pair. There's nothing wrong with good working analog equipment. (The Tek is also known by it's Military designation AN/USM - 488)
Then there's the inexpensive function generator that my son got me for my birthday. I've also picked up 3 Bird 43s which are actually the most expensive parts of this whole set. Since I have tube equipment I have a BK precision model 606 tube tester with a spare for parts, or as backup. (Haven't tested it yet.)
So, here's a couple pictures.
No, the BK is not on.

Awesome deals there. It kinda makes sense. As the hobby is quiet the price of equipment will fall off and those items that were once dream items are now a reality.

Re: What do you consider essential to your workbench?
Well, it's been quite a while. I've been busy trying to get a lot of things done to keep balanced and then Christmas and New Years, and I'm sure you've all been there. Well, the newest addition to my bench, other than a couple of kits I built to check out components was a Spectrum Analyzer.
Oh yeah, I've upgraded to a General Class License and I became an ARRL VE (Volunteer Examiner) so I will be taking time out to get others licensed as HAMs as well.
If you have any more comments or suggestions I will be around to check from time to time and hopefully add to other discussions. Until then. 73s
I think I have assembled a pretty good bench at this point. Now I have to put it to good use. So if you don't hear from me for longer periods of time I have been busy playing on my bench.
