Weird interference from gas station.

#77097

Post by Becker »

When I get close to the gas station in my town I get an extreme amount of static. My meter reads about 6 S units. It's just a steady hiss/whine. Once I'm about 50 yards from the station all problems are gone. Any idea what would cause this?

Lighting probably. There are a ton of man made things that'll produce similar interference...so that really isn't uncommon.

Could be fluorescent lights from frequencies transmitting at the pump, to microwaves, there really is no telling.

I have found many things cause hash and trash on 11 meters.Neon signs are one of the worst, also as stated earlier fluorescent lights and alarm systems are many times the culprit, the local bank puts out quite a clatter when its closed[must be the alarm what else could it be]I too have to tell people I will get back to them when I get out of town cause sometimes I have as much as 1/2 scale of just white noise[if ya want to call it that]Shawn

noise from signs and power lines

I got the same noise from a car dealers sign. I Installed the noise chopper and now I don't get any noise at all. Its a antenna filter. I also found It was better to use a 3 foot jumper Instead of a 2 Foot jumper. Hope this helps.
