antenna position ?
Since I have my antenna mounted on the cowl panel right in front of the windshield on the passenger side of my Suzuki Samurai this places all the metal surface for the antenna to reflect off of to one side. Which direction will the antenna transmitt better towards ? Back across the hood towards the metal or away from the hood. basicall I guess what I'm asking is if I'm sitting in the drivers seat trying to talk to someone thats directly to my right, which way should I point the truck to maximize my reach ?
By the theory that I have heard, it will be heavy toward the drivers side.
But because the vehicle is small, some will reflect toward the passenger side, and some will radiate directly from the antenna in all directions.
The only way that I have been able to find how directional an antenna system is, is to find a distant station, make contact, and test with your vehicle in different directions.
I've got a hunch, that you don't have much to worry about.

Way you can test to find out for sure, would be to use a swr Field Strength meter...
Radio Shack use to sell one, but think they have quit carrying them now. But you can find them all day on eBay. for around $10...
With these things, you have someone DK the mic, and you watch the meter, and just walk around the truck, checking the meter, and seeing where the strongest signal is going! These are real handy in determining how your signal is being transmitted...

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
