ANT/COAX QUESTION

#39218

Post by BLACKMAGIC »

I AM WAITING ON MY 2X4 FROM EASTCOAST. IN THE MEANTIME I AM GOING TO UPGRADE TO THE RG213 COAX. I HAVE THE 102'" WHIP WITH BALL AND SPRING MOUNT. IN THE PAST IVE ALWAYS CUT MY COAX AT THE ANTENNA END AND HOOKED MY COAX AT THE BOTTOM OF THE THE MOUNT WITH ONE OF THOSE CRIMP ON EYE CONNECTORS AND RUN THE GROUND PART OF THE COAX TO THE FRAME. QUESTION IS WILL THIS BE OK WITH THE 2X4 AND RG213, OR SHOULD I CHANGE MY MOUNT AND USE THE SCREW TYPE CONNECTORS, PL259 I THINK THEY ARE. AND ALSO DO I NEED THE RG213 JUMPER ALSO.

Way you are doing the coax is probably the best way to do it. Sence by grounding the coax directly to the frame, you know you have a good ground.

As for useing 213 coax as a jumper, would probably be the best thing, sence your useing it to the antenna. However, mini 8 will work just as well sence it would be comeing from the radio, and the radio will be putting out less watt's than the amp.

Probably only difference you would see (if any) may be a better ohm reading, by useing all the same type of coax. (closer to 50-52ohm w/ 1.1 swr)
Useing a 102" whip, you may need to play with the jumper lengths, to get swr down thou...
