Talk Back through SW Radio

Post by Blue Ox2 »

Is it possible for me to tune in a Short Wave radio to
just the right frequency to receive my CB transmission thereby enabling

hearing the audio from my rig?

Mike

If it will pick up 27.000 MHz I guess you could.

Yes, I have the Radio Shack DX 392 and it is
suppose to have 11 meter capabilities.

Just tune in the frequency and go for it then, I guess?

should be all you need to do...I have a old radio shack police scanner that will pick up cb channels...Never really used it for that tho, so not real sure how far off signals it will pull in.

I don't see why it shouldn't work, dial in the frequency, try 27.185 (channel 19), set the radio to that and key the mic. Make sure both are in AM mode.

In fact I've been doing that a lot here lately with some CB-to-10 conversion projects to make sure the radios are on frequency.

When I key the mic I get a hum like there is a signal but haven't heard proper "talkback" yet.

I set the SW radio to 27.235 and the base station to channel 23.

Next week I would like to try it more and get it right.

Correct, anyway.

73,

Mike

It isn't in front of me now. I'm 2 hours from home for a few days yet.

.235 is channel 24. That's the area where the FCC totally screwed up the channel spacing. If they had been smart, they'd have reassigned channel 23 to 27.235 and put 24 and 25 on .245 and .255, respectively. But I guess they didn't want to mess up everyone on those obsolete 23 channel radios.
