Base Coax

I need just a little over 100' of coax. How bad is it to connect 2 pieces of coax together with a threaded connector? I plan on ordering something longer, but I wanted to see how my old roof antenna is first. All they had in stock at my local place was 100' and shorter lengths. I'm of the opinion it's better than nothing till I figure out just exactly how long I need it and which coax is best. Any opinions on coax? I can get Belden locally, or order something better online I suppose.

I am not too wise about the brand names of coax. As far as cinnecting two pieces together with a screw on connector, I would say it should be cool for temporary use. Anytime you use an adapter or something that interrupts the continuity of the direct line, there will be some loss. The same thing goes with cable TV. If you use a connector to make a longer connection, your reception will suffer (not by much but it will suffer). I would say that it should be ok to use until you can get the exact length you need but I'm no expert.

Give Radio Active a call, see what he has in base coax. I know he is a cablexperts dealer.

Thanks Phaze!
You'll be fine with a barrel for a time! I used one when I was young for years on end until I could afford good coax. Good brand coax is great, but good brand coax with PROPERLY INSTALLED PL259s is better! Its easy to find Beldon, its hard to find someone who puts on the connectors right, including most factories!
PS: best bang for your buck at 100 ft is 213U

Hey Radio Active. How about a discription on how to properly attach connectors to coax and what to look for to see if it is properly attached.
