D104 head screws
Hi all, I was wondering if there is a source for replacement D104 lollypop head screws. Are they specialty screws or can they be purchased at a hardware or home improvement store? Is there a technical name for what type of screws they are? Thx for all advice and Happy Holidays to all from mine to yours!
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy!

Re: D104 head screws
what i see is a truss head 4-48 with 5/16 length,,, the stainless steel type would polish up nice, unless your lucky enough to find a chrome headed version. i think most are just brass.
this screws into a matching (female) barrel screw having a .131 diameter with .710 length
any close combination could work keeping in mind the mic head is about.850 thick.
these are commonly known as binding screws, binding barrel with screw,

So they're pretty common hardware store items?443 Arizona wrote:what i see is a truss head 4-48 with 5/16 length,,, the stainless steel type would polish up nice, unless your lucky enough to find a chrome headed version.

Hola..
Don't expect to find them at Home Depot or Lowes.
Try Ace Hardware or True Value Hardware. These companies most likely carry items like this. I'm pretty sure you can get them in stainless steel or chrome.

Wow, is there really a bot that runs on this board censoring words like s3x?
Another name for these fasteners is "binding posts" since they're used to keep papers together in folders. Here's an example:

Of course, those aren't the correct screws. If they were I would have already bought them all up and began reselling them here at an outrageous markup. Seriously though, I've spent a lot of time combing through dozens of catalogs of machine tool and fastener suppliers looking for something close but haven't found the right ones yet. If I could even just find the screws then I could use an internally threaded spacer for the long part.
If anyone stumbles across something close to the correct parts, please let us know.
Another issue is finish: Many are plated, but other look like they were blackened with something like gun bluing. Any idea when Astatic changed? I've got several mics with the black screws and I'm tempted to get a nickel plating from Caswell Plating and fix that.
And finally, anybody else have problems with loose heads? I've got several that wobble, and a few that even spin around completely. But a buddy of mine who owns a machine shop is making me a large C-shaped punch (to avoid hitting the top of the ring) with a mandrel that fits up the neck for support, and I think with a few light taps I'll be able to re-stake the heads on nice and tight again. When it's done I'll post pics.

Re: D104 head screws
I ended up finding several versions but nothing with the specs that would fit a D104 head. Not giving up though, they have to be out there some where.
