Re: PICTURES OF YOUR SETUP
Thanks Snowman Lately I've been concentrating more on scanners, I've got enough radios for now LOL. I love the look of those old Bearcat IV's it's classic chrome , like the 57 chevy of the scanner world. So far I have six scanners, but the one I monitor is a modern Realistic digital trunking model, and I have a handheld Uniden I keep in the truck.

Finnaly,
my setup is complete in my garage. But everything will move in the house in October with a Dosy tester and a base microphone.
All the radio stock will be near my computer setup in my office.
Can't wait.

Re: PICTURES OF YOUR SETUP
I'm on vacations this week,
Between renovation of the house and some fishing, wanted to know what will look this big radio in my office when the antenna will be setup on the house.
Until then, I still make contacts in the garage.
It will be more comfortable in November in the cold country.

With the handle "Snowman" you shouldn't need A/C, Maybe AC "as in" Alternating Current!!!!!!!!!! LOL420Snowman wrote:Yea me too, thats a classic!!!! Nice looking setup, I wish my shack was inside in the AC!!!!

Down here in Louisiana with the humidity, NO A/C would = Death! lmao. I actually have a window unit in my "man room" where my main rig is set up. Just so I can chill it down & not have to hear the wife complain! After all, shes not allowed in the "man room" with out my express permission!

Re: PICTURES OF YOUR SETUP
Mike you have really come along with your setup. It just keeps growing! I haven't really ever thought of collecting shortwave radios, do you hear very much with them? Is is mostly in other languages? I have thought about getting one of the older radios that has AM/FM and the VHF public safety band as they seem easy to find, but haven't considered shortwave.Sporty Mike wrote:Nice to see everyones pics...and good to see when people update. I have added a few, yet again and did a little rearranging.
The following are new pics of some of my scanners, as well as my shortwaves, and some general updated pics of the shack.

I think I recognize two of the crystal scanners you have in your pics. The Bearcat 210XL and the Digiscan. If you bought those at one of the local thrift stores (Huffman I think) I remember seeing both of them there and tinkering with them for a little while on my weekly thrift store run. I love old scanners myself. I've got 2 Bearcat III's, a MacDonald CE-100, and a Realistic Pro-48a, all crystal-type scanners. I also have a Radioshack Pro-2034 base, a Uniden BC246T, and a Radioshack Pro-96 digital, but these are modern unlike the others. I need a cord for the Pro-48, but the MacDonald and Bearcat III's have local crystals for non-digital frequencies in them and are used almost daily. I really enjoy the way that older scanners (radios, too!) look and sound. The chrome and clean audio make them attractive to me. They're useful machines and pieces of art all rolled into one.
I need to get around to posting pics of my setup, but I'm always changing something so by the time I get them uploaded they won't be current. I always ejoy seeing everyone's setup because it's fun to see how everyone else does it and get ideas for your own.

Re: PICTURES OF YOUR SETUP
I couldn't have said it better myself about the old scanners!! A chrome face Bearcat IV is simply beautiful to me. And yes, the Digiscan and both of the Bearcats came from the thrift store in Huffman!!haha A while back the other thrift store down on the parkway had a Black Bearcat III that was missing the power cord. I didn't get it because of that , but now I have a good power cord so any more I come across I'm grabbing 'em , cord or no cord!! LOL And about the shortwave , yes, most of what I have heard has been foreign. But I just have the telescoping ant. that is on the radio. A good shortwave radio with a good outside ant. is a whole different ballgame than the little portables like I've got. Although, I do have one that is a Sears model that when in the VHF band picks up the Birmingham Airport's tower like they're nextdoor.BobCB wrote:Mike you have really come along with your setup. Re: PICTURES OF YOUR SETUP
I tend to have the most luck at the Huffman store and Parkway East thrift stores. Another favorite of mine is Planet Thrift in Center Point. I have had the worst luck at the Pinson thrift store, although I did find the Midland 75-822 that I run mobile for $2 there but not much else. I usually dont hit any others as it seems like a lot of the ones out towards Homewood or Blount County either don't sell electronics or only sell TV's. Sometime I want to head up to Gadsden and check their's out, they have a few.Sporty Mike wrote:I couldn't have said it better myself about the old scanners!! The funny thing about the Bearcat III that you mentioned is that I just bought my 2nd one at that store on Friday. It did have the power cord and antenna for it, which is a plus because my other Bearcat III(from Huffman) had neither--now both of them work. I got to looking around the house and it turns out that I do actually have a SW radio, I used it in my garage but never even noticed that band on it. I'm going to keep an eye out for one of those Bearcat IV's, I like all the chrome and metal that it has compared to my Bearcat III, I'm also wanting to find an older(maybe crystal) handheld scanner that I can use for situations where it might get damaged or just to leave in the car. As for CB's I have only been finding 23 channel radios here lately, but I really don't have much of a use for them and already have a few. I'm hoping I'll find a decent SSB rig at one of the stores soon since my Cobra 142 has issues.

Cool rig! Bet it sounds good. I may have missed it, but what antenna are you using? Also, how do you have the electric trailer brakes wired? Straight to the amp or radio???
