All of the 10 meter base radios on any of the sponsor's websites can be converted to CB. As far as just a good "all-around" CB style base radio...I'd probably go with the Ranger 2980. Just check them out and read up on them until you find one that sticks out to you!

I would get a magnum 257 and a texas star amp, a nice combination and it gets out, but you will need a power supply at least 35 amp...
Most base units are way to expensive, unless you go for the galaxy under 300, inside it is the same as a 959..

I'd worry about the radio last, and get the antenna setup right first. If you are an am operator, there is a lot out there. Sideband wise, as mentioned the rangers are good. You mentioned 10 meters. If you plan on really getting into the ham scene get a real ham HF rig that will do all of the hf bands. A new icom can be had for $599 and a nice yaesu ft450 can be had for $649 new, both of which can be converted to cb and do 100 watts out of the box, and possess qualities far superior to anything export or cb wise, including DSP, lots of features, etc., but they don't sound loud on am usually. If you think about it, the difference between a nice new ranger 2995 and the ham rigs, the ham rigs are a good deal. For am, anything will do. -drdx

10-4. I don't think it goes as low as 25 mhz, but it'll go down to 26 mhz I think. Anyway, after a simple modification, it will cover all of 11 meter CB as well as above and below...roughly 26-28 mhz (CB falling between in 27 mhz).Ricky wrote:i see that the 2980 has a band selecter switch. does that include 11 meters? 25mhz-29mhz?

It's possible. I'd probably just let whoever I bought the radio from do it. All or our sponsors would treat you right. Just shop around and find out some prices. Here's the link to the mod, by the way:Ricky wrote:could i do it myself?and how do you do the mod?

oppz, i have a 2995dx that goes from 24MHz to 32MHz, that would be 10 meters up to 12 meters...DjSlim Jim wrote:10-4. I don't think it goes as low as 25 mhz, but it'll go down to 26 mhz I think. 10 and 12 meters are pretty dead now just like cb, but it is nice to have them. 12 meters is extremely narrow but 10 is huge. Even if you're not a ham, you can listen up on 10 meters to the repeaters and beacons to get a fix on conditions. If you don't have those bands, you just put it on channel 6 for a skip sensor.

yes, when you buy the radio, just specify that you want it converted. 99% of the places where you buy 10 meter export radios know that you're gonna want it converted. If they're a sponsor on here and you tell them you're a member, they will know you want it converted. But, just to be safe, I'd mention it to be sure if arrives "ready to go"!Ricky wrote:so when i buy it, the conversion will be an option? thanks for the info guys
