What type antenna?

Hello CBRT. Well hate for my first post to be a help one. I live in a townhouse were I am unable to install a roof antenna. So what would be my best bet. As of now. I have a Firestick firefly and a Procomm Pat-12. And I am using a Galaxy DX959. And help would be greatly appreciated. Also, I do have a attic if that matters.

Buy a house out in the country and put up a 50' tower with a big-A Beam on top!

There is quite a few videos out there regarding dipoles in the attic .I dont know how much space you have .Also there was a thread some time back about a antenna mounted on a balcony.

Yeah, I'm looking into dipoles now. I do have a second floor. But NO balcony. I'll keep searching. Even more excited now, just learned about skip(dx).

Depending on how well you know your neighbors you could probably get away with the Procomm Pat-12 installed on 10 or 20 feet of mast in the back of the house. An outside antenna is going to perform better than any attic antenna. Try to make it fold over to be less conspicuous. HOA can be a bite.

Great ! when you get stuff set up eventually you will like to play around with Side band . Its sporadic at best now but when it gets going 38 lsb is hopping and you can get alot of dx contacts. I was watching some videos today and some guy was talking dx on a dipole he had set up inside of his house. In retrospect MD is right about performance though.

The sad thing is. I work for our HOA. I'm going to the office tomorrow morning and see what they say. I have nothing to lose. I know there is NO way they will let put the Pat-12 up. But what about the firestick up on a pole. Lets see if they even let me put something up there. Not giving up yet.

I have a friend that lives on the ground floor of his apartment building, he bought a patio table and chair set, has it just outside his sliding door, he mounted a Antron A99 on a 10ft mast, posted it through the middle umbrella hole and it's been that way for 2 years now, seems like the management doesn't care.

i use a mfj magnetic loop antenna.
works great inside the house. made many contacts with it. but they cost 500.00

That's my biggest setback. Money. That and living in a HOA. But I'm currently looking into building something. That sounds like the most fun for me. And it helps keep the cost down.

Hope you don't mind me asking this. But being new and all to the antenna scene. I have to. I am guessing you have a very sweet setup at home. So why would you want to use something inside? I have a Firestick that I'm trying to use indoors. With no luck I might add.

I'm in an HOA and I put an inverted V DR-Dipole on my roof.
I have also put the Patriot 12' on a Dish mount pole and there hasn't been anything said.

In the Spring I am going to put the IMax 2000 up somehow.
Just gotta get it up high enough.

I have a patriot antenna 5 feet off the ground behind my home. I retired and moved to a senior mobile home park not realizing i was going to get back into cb after 25 years . Im not supposed to have an antenna so its stealthy just barely peaking above the roof and i have some really good neighbors lol. Im always to make antennas playing around with my radios and new ways (cheap) to makes antennas. If i had my way i would spend so much more on radio stuff. It a hobby i really love.

I was recently in Palm Springs. I brought my radio with me and brought my Dipole antenna. I set the dipole up on the deck of my hotel room (Ground Level). It was just 6 feet off the ground. When skip was rolling i made multiple contacts from across the country even Florida. I might as well add that i came very close to contacting 295 antenna that day. We spoke to the same guy but could not hear each other. So it prolly doesnt make a difference if a dipole is 6 or 60 feet high. JMHO

I have a list of antenna's, and dipole is at the top of the list. Along with 1/2 and 1/4 wave. But still learning a little.

Well, made up my mind. Going with 295. Going to put my pat-12 on top of a 8-9 ft pole, in the backyard. Hope to be talking to you all soon. 73's

Having to deal with a HOA, that is probably your best bet. After putting it up and if you don’t have and problems or requested to remove it, upgrading to a imax 2000 or similar fiberglass antenna would be your next step.

I run a dipole in the attic area of my garage. The attic area is 10' tall. Keep in mind the dipole cut for 11 meters will be 17.12598' long. I run in an inverted v also.
