Cash or Credit
Hey,
Just out of curiosity how many of you pay a different price for gas meaning paying with cash the price is lower than paying with a credit card, gas/company card included. Here in Maryland they have been doing this for years now and I'm thinking it is against the law. You go shopping anywhere else and the price is the same why only for gasoline? The story is it is suppose to reflect the cost of using the card issuer's fees but then that should hold true at everyplace you use a card.
This topic is both curious and venting.

Credit. Card company's charge the store a fee for the use of the card machines and a data line fee on each transaction. ..same thing happens if you use your card on a vending machine...generally price of product will already reflect fee charges.

Re: Cash or Credit
Right, the average fee is 3 cents on the dollar here in Maryland but the difference in price at these gas stations is as high as 25 cents a gallon. Now the thing is if you buy a gallon of milk inside said gas station (most are convenience stores as well) they don't charge that extra fee, it's only on gasoline. Is gasoline a different price for using cash or credit in Texas JJD?

Re: Cash or Credit
Some stores it is... (not all) Most of the stores where you see gas priced cheaper if you use cash, are privately owned stores and not the chain stores...Idea is to get you to come inside to pay, so they have a better chance of getting you to buy something else besides just gas...Mark-up on things on the shelf is allot more than what the mark-up on gas is...With the exception of stations located at exit's along the Interstates...Those stations usually mark their gas up allot more than the ones in the neighborhoods...Of course that's a command practice just about everywhere.

Re: Cash or Credit
Another trick local privately owned stores do around here to get you to come inside, is they don't replace the receipt paper at the pumps...So if you pay at the pump, and want your receipt, you have to go inside to get it, and just maybe getting you inside the store you might buy a drink or something that has been jacked-up 3x what they payed for it!

Turkey Hill (Kroger) has $.03 off using their loyalty card. Prices from one TH to another can vary by as much as $.25/gal depending on where in the county you are. Adv. price 'round Lancaster, PA at the moment is $2.29&9/10/gal. Saw a Sunoco yesterday for about $2.36/gal.MDYoungblood wrote: ↑Saturday, 15 July 2017, 9:32 AMHey,

Re: Cash or Credit
The highest I've seen it around here is $2.15...Had to get gas in my work van on Friday at a Exxon store just off the freeway because I was on fumes and didn't have a choice...Most places are just under the 2-dollar mark...some SAM's stores had it last week at $1.89...maybe a little more now tho because gas went up a few penney's last Thursday for some reason.295 antenna wrote: ↑Sunday, 16 July 2017, 9:09 AMYour killing me JJD 273 and rising thanks to the gov. and the new road tax

Re: Cash or Credit
I use a Sunoco credit card, it is a reward card that lets me pay the cash price for credit, only problem is all the Sunoco's in the area are closing up and becoming Carroll Fuel. I hit the warehouse store's (BJ's or Sam's Club) with gas, can only use a credit card there, they run a special if you buy something in the store you get $.05 off at the pump. Your right JJD, if you took off the federal and state tax gas here would be less than a dollar a gallon. I have to use Premium in my pickup, runs $2.45 a gallon, the Jeep is regular at $2.05.Blue Ox2 wrote: ↑Sunday, 16 July 2017, 9:56 AMTurkey Hill (Kroger) has $.03 off using their loyalty card. Funny, I didn't think there were that many states with cash or credit pricing around the country.

Re: Cash or Credit
Allot of it just has to do with getting people to come inside to pay, and try to get ya to buy something off the self while your there... People who pay at the pump seldom come inside and buy anything

Re: Cash or Credit
I agree some what with the go inside idea but Arco has a kiosk outside so you can put in your cash or card and you dont have to go inside .I think they strated it but to tell you the truth they were the first ones i noticed because even their credit price was cheaper than most . now Costco sells gas and it must be cheap because there is always a long line of cars. I dont like waiting inline so i dont go there for gas.

The other thing that bites me is that 9/10 of a cent on a gallon, look it up and you will be surprised on how it came about.
