Tram Titan II Tube Layout

Post by BigLion »

Bought a Titan II at a local flea market, except the seller took all the tubes out of it to sell separately!! (num-nutz).
I bought both but have no idea which tube goes where. Anyone have a tube layout? :jokercolor:

:bounce: Google/Bing/YouTube will get any info you need, I just looked. They were good radios in their day. I ran one with a Contex 500, D 104, and a HyGain 3 element beam in late 69/70, good talker.Hate it about flea nutz, typical. Good luck,
David g.

Careful when you recap that dude! It bites.

Just over ten years ago I was working on a Tram Titan II, doing it's recap when my finger slipped, got royally bit by the B+ voltage.... sent my cat into orbit too. (she was in my lap).

Yep! The thing worked well after I was done with it. Though, I did not like it being a "drifter".

Hey,
I'm sending you info through your forum email address, the files were too large to use a PM. Let me know if this works for you.

Glad the email helped. If any of the tubes checked less than 80% I'd change them out, that was the rule back in my TV repair days. Since you say its clean radio I'd find a SAM's Photofact CB Radio Series for it,
Titan...............................13
Titan II (5320).....................24
Titan IIA...........................40
Titan III...........................34
Titan IV............................49
Receiving just static isn't good but means it could use a good cleaning (pots and coils) if it was in an attic heat and cold, use some DeoxIt D5 sparingly in the controls, try not to spray any of the plastic parts/dials. Recapping is a must, look for caps the same value but can be higher voltage, you'll find the filter caps will be smaller than the originals but the new caps tend to be heftier made.
Good luck with this project and keep us informed.

MDY,

Absolutely, yes about the capacitors. Also, check for leaky ones too in the signal chain too.

*****CAREFUL HIGH VOLTAGES PRESENT!!!*****

Thanks for posting the SAMS numbers, that'll him out a bit.

These tube rigs have to be aligned *twice*
1. When you warm it up after retubing/recapping *just after you did your repairs*
2. When you've ran it hard for a few hours in both TX & RX modes..... this will allow your set's tubes to burn in & other components to get used to being used again. This is your FINAL going over.

Hang loose,
Cliff
