Channel Mod
Considering a channel mod on my Galaxy 959 with a couple of switches gorilla taped to the top of my radio. Haha!

Re: Channel Mod
The Galaxy 949/959 and the 2547 base use the same board and is the easiest radio I found to mod and the frequencies it is capable of doesn't really get you up or down into areas that can cause you real trouble even though being out of band is a big deal to some. There is a group that uses 26.915 (AM) as the home channel and 27.555 (USB) is known as a calling frequency, a lot of EU stations there. Now that skip is so sporadic, it is a listen and wait game.

Re: Channel Mod
Decided not to do the Mod. Too much propaganda regarding Freeband.

Re: Channel Mod
It is your choice , don't let "propaganda" sway you, 90% (JMO) of the ham operators that condemn doing it have their Amateur HF radio modded with the "MARS/CAP" mod and you will find a lot of them (JMO again) on the 11m band.

Re: Channel Mod
I put the mod in my 2547 and quite glad I did. You have to make the decision for yourself.

Re: Channel Mod
As anxious as you seem to be wanting to do some DX-ing, the Freeband makes it much easier to do so, less traffic and a better chance of getting international contacts. Go for it. JMHO.Mtn Lynx wrote:Decided not to do the Mod. Too much propaganda regarding Freeband.

Re: Channel Mod
Channel i talk on is mostly modded HF rigs and a split mix of ticket holders and cber's it is your radio mod it if you want.
I would guess that 80 or 90 percent of the radios on 11 meters and a good percentage of 10 meter radios are modded beyond legal limits any way. JMO
