SIRIO SY-4 4 element Yagi Beam

Post by PONY EXPRESS » Monday, 26 October 2009, 11:12 AM

Just this morning we decided to mount our Sirio SY-4 4element yagi beam to the botton of our new tower installations.

Here is the following results on The Superbowl Ch 6 on receive

Comparing a IMAX 2000 with top of antenna at 60 ft and SY-4 at 51 ft up horizontal.

Skip starting to roll in from North Carolina into Missouri

There was a tremendous difference with the Beam hearing 4-5 s units stronger .Some stations not even heard with the IMAX 2000
were easily heard on the beam. It was amazing how many High Powered Mobiles are on Ch 6 :icon_rolleyes: :icon_rolleyes:

I did have to adjust the antenna match different from factory specs as Im sure my other antennas were having an effect on tuning.
SWR 1.2-1 at ch 1 Yeap 1.1-1 @ channel 20 1.2-1 at ch 40

The instruction Manual tells you where to set gamma match but a small 1/4 inch adjustments can move the antenna swr exactly where you want them.Below ch 1 ABOVE ch 40 is effected by where that tuning bar is placed on the large tube of driven element
1ST Moving the main bracket attached to larger antenna tube 1/4 inch at a time and then fine tuning for lowest swr by moving the inside rod in or out 1/4 inch at a time. That is how you adjust a gamma match .Then only then Firmly Tighten those allean screws

When we was pointed into the tree today that was wet from the rain swr climbed to 1.5-1

Overall performance in reg 40 channels is very good it has very good - front to back , side rejection and forward gain
Nice SWR over 40 channels and can be turned easily with a TV rotor
You will not be disappointed with performance with this beam at around 150.00 price range

Would I recommend this antenna ?
YES YES YES I give it a solid 8 out of 10

Its not a real radio unless it has tubes and USB/LSB on the front panel ....
