500W 3 Pill Fatboy

Post by DarkEyes » Wednesday, 10 June 2009, 2:07 AM

Was looking at this..

500 Watt 3 pill 2290 driver Amp Fan and Remote Jack
1x2290 dr 2x2879 Low drive 2-4 watts deadkey 50 amp power Supply will run this amp
variable power control

Does that mean I cant just run it to my battery? Do i need a power supply to run it?
Sorry I am new to amp.

Thanks

No, it just means it's small enough to run on a 50 amp power supply in your house. The leads coming off the power supply are 12 volts, which is the same as your car.

In other words, you can run it off your car battery just fine. Some people just look for amps that will run off a power supply of 50 amps in your house, b/c if you get a power supply bigger than that, it's a large investment.

50 amps should be fine. Power supplies have a wattage rating as well. A 50 amp power supply may support 13.8 x 50 = 690 watts. 500 watts is peak watts or "happy watts". The real power a 2 pill does is around 200-250 watts RMS, and the current/power draw will reflect that minus it's efficiency.

RF Parts data sheets has the following info:

SD1446 90W output with 5W input
2SC2290 80W output with 4W input
2SC2879 120W output with 7W input

Ratings are at 30MHz, 12.5-13.6v

Figure about 60% efficiency.

What wire guage would i need to run that amp? I know bigger is better but running 2guage from the battery to the trunk would be a pain.
