My favorite is a Uniden Grant. I have had a lot of success with a Grant but several of my ssb radios are only 23 ch.

The Uniden SSB radios are both a good choice, Bearcat 980 SSB or President McKinley (Uniden made). If your looking for something a little more, check out the Anytone AT-6666, use the "search" to to read about it.

I like my McKinley as an awesome SSB mobile.
Our sponsors have good deals as MDY mentioned.

Best wishes on finding the one that suits yer needs.
Perhaps Santa will bring you just the right one.

Thanks for the info. As for the price i would like to keep it around 600 or less. How do you all feel about the Stryker"s? Power is all and good but the audio and receive is what i want.

I've had my Uniden 980 SSB for a couple of years now and it has been a very solid performer. It stays on frequency rather well with no drift that I am aware of. The receive is excellent, one of the best ones out there but not too sensitive. However, the audio is not that "big". If you want big audio to "get out", then I would definitely advise getting a quality power mic like an Astatic Road Devil which is what I run and it does great with that radio.

I run a Uniden Washington with 12 watts running into a IMAX2000 antenna on a 13 foot pole. I have no problem talking skip from De. to Fl. and to all the other parts of the country. I usually wait until the band is clear and throw out a CQ a few times. They come right back. Catch the wave early when the band starts to open and everyone is listening and you will be surprised how they come back. I wait to the late evening hours after sunset and have good luck with the Washington radio. I love that Uniden Washington. It really has a great quiet receive compared to modern radios.

You are so right De Wildfire
I’ve been setting the squelch so it’s relativly quiet and as the noise starts jump on and call. It’s worked great a couple times tha s week. Right as the band opens is a great time.
