My first confirmed contact on ssb

Post by poboy309 »

375 in GA on 38 lsb. 8:18 pm on a home made dipole inverted v. Ive finally figured out my set up. I got rid of the power mic and have easier control of my mic gain. I'm proud of my little grant lt.

Congrats'! The first is always the best. There will be more to come, too.

Ain't nothing wrong with a dipole...inverted 'V' or otherwise! After all, it's a 1/2 wave antenna and probably one of the best tried and true designs available. There is always a special satisfaction about making contacts on an antenna you made yourself too. Very cool indeed!

Thanks for sharing that with us and good luck DX-ing!

Thanks! It was a lot easier with ssb. When skip was rolling on am, I was lucky to get out against the big stations. I know conditions lasted quite a while here in IL. My last contact was 11:15 pm cst.

Very nice!!! I remember my first SSB contact from a repaired ground plane I got when I was 16 and had just got a Sears roadtalker base. It was 16LSB to Idaho.

My first AM contact was on my mobile with a 2 pill on a 102" whip. I got out to GA and SC on my over driven 2 pill. My wife doesn't seem to share the enthusiasm in my successful dx so I have to find those who enjoy it to share. My friends look at me like I'm nuts. They ask who I talk to and how far I get. Of course after I tell them, they tell me that's what a phone is for.
They just won't understand.

First contact is always the best , after that is starts to be "old hat" until you get across the ponds to Europe and Australia.

I'm working on my antenna setup. The more I read and learn the more I realize how lucky I've been to get any good contacts. I'm hoping to make it across the pond soon.

Still getting as excited as a kid in a candy store here too when making confirmed contacts. Found out there is a local here that has a cb. He's listening to me make DX contacts. His antenna is too small to hear skip tho.
