I have a super star 3300 it has good receive and good transmit but no modulation I tried pa speaker and it has modulation on pa

on the side of the case you will have a large transistor mounted to the side of the case. it is larger than the finals. it has 3 legs, check the voltages on all 3 legs in TX and RX modes to see what the voltages are. it may be bad. also let us know what the watts out put is showing when you key the mic.

I put a brand new regulator in the super star 3300 and it is getting hot

what part number did you put in it. the old 2sb754 chips will get hot if the radio is tuned to max. galaxy went to the 2sb827 a few years ago because of the 754 failures. a tip36c works good in that spot and is a higher amperage unit.there is a couple different suppliers for the tip36 chips and one is a big part and hard to get it into that location.
