Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
My friend has a Galaxy Saturn Turbo. When he transmits on channel 32, he also come in crystal clear on the 10M band around 28.500. This was pointed out by the hams that were up there and came down to notify him. He has since stop using that radio, and wants me to attempt a repair on it. First off, I don't know if his mod limiter was clipped, and don't know where it is. This is a bizarre behavior. He connected another radio to the antenna, and there were no such problems, so the antenna is not the cause. Besides, this is not a splash. This sounds like he is actually transmitting there. Can anyone help or point me to a site with Galaxy Saturn Turbo info? Does anyone know that the mod limiter is? Thanks.

316, if you can scan or take pictures of the manual, it would be great. Thanks! I don't need much. I need the schematic if possible, and the alignment pages. I have to find out which is the mod limiter.
BTW, the hams that heard him were his friends, and tried to warn him before someone else would report him. So they were not bitter hams. Also, he says he was only pushing 4 watts, and I believe him, because his replacement radio was a Uniden 510 pro, and he sound almost the same with the same signal.

No one ever figured this out i guess.
I have one that you can hear it's tx on another radio clearly plus or minus one channel on side band.

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
Good catch at bring up an old topic redlght.
There are a couple radios out there I have seen with this problem, playing with a cheap SDR I've seen a local on 27.385 and his signal was also present at 28.380, I've simulated the same thing with a couple of radios I have but I'm not sure it is just overpowering the IF in that SDR or a signal really there, only way to tell is with a spectrum analyzer which is out of my price range.

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
I hear ya MD mine txing on 36 LSB at 5 miles away gives no Rx signal but the audio is clear 1 ch up or 1 ch below not garbled like it should be. I am gonna look into mine and see if it was ever modded or maybe a failure of something doing it.

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
There is a local here that talks channel 22AM and the radio which he won't say what it is sounds just as good, (if you can call splattering and over modulation good) on 37 and 38, luckily he's not on all the time. The problem there is I believe the wrong fingers have been in it.

do not know if you have a service manual. here is a link to the saturn which may help you. even has some possible cause for repairs.

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
From what i read about this issue once you mod the radio to cover 26 to 32 it will bleed unless you change out the filter. Stock filter is way wide when modded it bleeds over badly no fix but to change out the filter to some thing better and more narrow or put it back to stock. same goes for the 2990 saturn and eagle 5000.
here is a vid of one with same problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NH975Xl8gkM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
-- Friday, 22 April 2016, 16:23 PM --
I messed around a bit with it took the 200 watt amp part out of line and used just radios finals still throw mass spurs all over the band it is on TX AND RX because you can hear others 3 channel away form center channel. Very weird problem at that

I was wondering about this issue first pic is a cobra 2000gtl PA section to ant in SM it says to adjust L36 for the least amount of second harmonic at 54Mhz.

Second pic is a of it's PA section dx2527 similar to the sat turbo and eagle5000 what in this section would do the same thing as the L36 in the 2k?

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
I have had some say the audio is set up to high that's why it splatters but how would that effect the rx doing the same thing picking up 3 channels either direction perfectly clear? I put mine on a spectrum analyzer and it spurs all over the place strange part it doesn't spur bad on the harmonics lol

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
I have changed FL1 and FL3 with no change put a choke in L33 where one shows on the schematic but not in the radio was never installed none of it seemed to help. They are sure secretive about these turbos and eagles as far as tech info goes few and far between.

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
It still tx's so wide you can hear it 3 channels away
Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
are you bleeding over on a radio in the room with you or is it some one a few miles away? try it with the power turned down see if it is just driving the amp too hard.. just a thought.

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
any black box export after you modify it for cb will send spurs on 10 meters. it just the way it is. no fix for this

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
I have a virgin, completely stock, using a stock microphone Uniden President Washington that produced the same effects as that video so really isn't a good reference. The maker of that video was a little bias toward certain radios as well. A lot of the harmonics has to do with the proximity of the transmitting and receiving radios or instruments used to measure the spurs. Now with that said any transmitter will produce harmonics outside it's range when misaligned.

i have a stock galaxy 2995dxcf all i did was put the e chip in no tune stock mic. it spurs all over the 10 meter band. on my signal generator. just going buy what i see. yes im a ham and cber.
but i will not argue about it. this is my last post on this thread.

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
I can't say i have ever had a radio "spur on my signal generator" before.
It actually transmits a clean signal every 10KHz till the signal drop so low it cant be heard on another radio and i am talking a radio 5 miles away or picked up on a spectrum analyzer.
If you are on say 27.4050 you will be transmitting clear on every channel below and above for about 60KHZ in either direction. It is not splatter per say or harmonics the 54MHZ 2nd harmonic is all most non existent it is clean signal every 10KHz.
Even when you un-mod it back to 10 meter rig and that is only moving a jumper it does the same thing.
Also it is not the 100 watt amp doing it, I have tried it with the amp bypassed and the final with only the pre driver going and it still does it all be it lower in strength.
I had another radio here the same kind and it was clean as all get out, I didn't have to time to probe it out for comparison. There has to be a part that failed some where that causes it to generate that 10KHz and or pass that signal and add to it each time.
So some radios doing it and some not of the same model dictates that is a failed or removed part in the radio causing it.

Re: Galaxay Saturn Turbo Problems
With help I found the problem It was a 22K smd resistor added to IC5 Phase Comparator by the factory by mistake. Took it out of line and clean with no spurs.

The fix remove the resistor:

Cool find redlght, those SMT resistors are so small it looks like a solder gob on the the board. Will be watching for it if another Turbo crosses my bench.

To the op I would suspect the ham was listening on 32 and then claiming he heard it on 28.5. I have seen this happen in the past.
