Yes it does.
All I did was hold them real tight and unscrew.
If its to hard and slippery use something rubber to wrap around did that also.

the hex parts on the lower shaft are both on the same shaft that's why they arent moving.

Take your crecent wrench and a pait of channel locks, use a rag on the channel lock, aluminum mars easy.

Grab above the top hex. crecent on the hex.

yes there are 3 parts...

Your doing it wrong! If all you want to do, is take off the lower shaft, put your wrench on the top hex nut right under the coil...Then take a pair of vice-grips and stick them between the turns of the coil, and clamp down on the insulator, then turn counter clock-wise and the lower shaft will unscrew off...

Note: Before you clamp down on the insulator, put a old rag or piece of rubber around the insulator to keep the teeth of the vice-grips from digging into the insulator!

There is actually 3 pieces used to make the lower shaft! and the top shaft as well...And that's not counting the set-screws, and studs...The coil is made up of a insulator, coil, 2 set screws, and studs...Allot of time is taken to put these things together. The lower shaft, and top shaft look to be only one piece, but trust me, it's not! After the shafts are all assembled, Kale puts the parts on a machine that brushes the aluminum so that you can't see the seams where the parts are screwed together.
Image

If you want to see a what it would look like, if he didn't brush the parts, just look at the 10K Clone that Tram builds...It has all the same parts as a 10K, but not brushed out...(it also "WILL NOT COME APART!...so don't try, unless you want to buy another antenna!)

Interesting. So, can you add 2 shafts together. In other words, to they come apart to the point that they are compatable thread wise and can be mated? I've got a trashed 9 inch shaft I'd like to mate to a 12 inch one. Can this be done with existing parts? Or, is there a common hardware store piece of althread/allen bolt that will make it possible that anyone knows of?

You can do what your talking about, if you have several 10K's to use as parts, and the spacer that is used on the dual coils......I know I was fooling around with some of my 10K parts, and used a shaft, and top section together once to build a taller top section...What I was doing was trying to make a version of Kales Fighting stick 10K, without having to use a stinger...Didn't work out tho...even using a 27" lower shaft on top, I was still too short...

The threads on the parts are just standard threads...nothing special, But I have no idea where you would find aluminum parts to screw the sections of shafts together, unless you go threw Kale.

If what you want is a longer lower shaft than the 27", I would just call Kale and he will build you whatever length you want...I know one guy that had Kale build a 48" shaft!

Your going to need to be using a SWR Meter to figure that out "exactly"....Could be as much as a foot or more. Don't just go and cut off a foot to start with tho...Check your swr when you get the 27" shaft on, and go from there cutting off maybe a inch at a time...If this is a regular single coil 10K antenna, regardless of which shaft you have, the total height of the antenna should be somewhere around 7'...

It's a grease similar to what is used in amps when installing the transistors. Kale dose not use the gray stuff anymore tho, and now uses a white grease. It's there to help keep the water out...

If it was locktite, there would be no-way to take the thing apart! And that might be what Tram uses on their 10K Clone, because that puppy "Won't" come apart!

You got that right about being around 7ft. I just got a 9" shaft single coil. Some people told me that I would end up cutting 2 ft off to get the swr down, but instead of trimming the whip I ended up raising it. (The raising of the whip came after I trimmed my first whip because I couldn't get calibration to start point.....and ended up buying a new whip ) So raise whip before you cut :)

Top part you will need two pairs of vice grips to remove, since there is no hex nut to put a wrench on...Just clamp your vice grips to the top section, and the other to the insulator, then turn counter-clockwise...

And like you did before, put something between the vice grips and what your clamping down on, so the teeth don't dig into the antenna...
