Shure 522 Base Station Mic wiring

Post by kgoad » Friday, 26 January 2018, 9:12 AM

Hi all,
I am totally confused. I have done several things from ohming out wires and schematic lookups. I am stumped.
I have a Midland 5001Z radio and want to run a Shure 522 Base Station Mic to it.
The Shure mic came without a connector, just the lose wires.
Midland has a 4 pin connector. Shure has 5 wires. The colors are: Red, White. Green, Black and the bare (shield).

I am attempting to solder wires into a 4 pin connector.
Nothing seems to be working....

Please help!!! What wire goes to what pin#? Any answers or at least a guide to follow?

Thanks all

Ken

Hello kgoad,
Welcome to the forum. I hate to be the barer of bad news but that mic will not work on that radio, the red and black wires are for the PTT, the rest are audio (green or white depending on impedance) and the shield is audio ground. The mic is designed for relay switching and your midland is electronic switching.
As a new member to the forum could you post an intro in the "Welcome to the Forum" topic, viewforum.php?f=89 , so other members can say "Hi", thanks.

That makes total sense. Thank you! I suppose that there isn't a relay switching box or anything that can "bridge" this to make use of this mic?

Again, Thank you so much for the info!!

Here is a schematic I found online showing the wiring, I would say it is possible to rewire it to work but not probable since I have never seen the inside contact section of one. As far as using a relay there is no power source to make it function, that would have to be addressed as well.
