Which Mic For A 980 SSB?

Post by DevilDog66 »

Well, I did it and pulled the trigger on a Uniden Bearcat 980 SSB for Christmas. Right now I'm running a little Midland 1001 LWX with a Cobra power mic. I would like to know which microphones power or noise cancelling would be good to run with the 980 paired with an RM KL203P linear? I figure I need to set the DK between 2-3 watts so as not to "fry" the amp. 73's to all!

RF limited 2018 extreme mic works well with that radio as does the uniden Bluetooth mic.

You could have the both with a Road Devil, the amplifier works well and has the noise canceling head of the 636L. The best part is you can wire it so you'll never need a battery, the center pin #6 has +8v on it.

A Turner M+3 Hand mic.

Tough SOB's and sound great too. I've had in several rigs over the decades.... *had it for years*.

Slammed it in the door, stepped on it, dropped it on the cement near the fueling island, the pit bull puppy gnawed on it, and..... IT STILL WORKS!! Still sounds good too.

It ain't pretty..... looks like a bar of black Lava soap that takes a weird 7V battery. IT CRANKS!

I've never heard of that kinda mic before, I'm going to see if I can "google" it and see what that Turner M3 is all about. Sounds like a beast of a mic though!
