Skip on AM
Do you guys ever hear skip on AM? I've been listening lately after I hear everyone talking about skip rolling. Is it only on side band?

I dont know but I think it comes and goes. I know last night it was rolling, and it was rolling again this morning. So i went in and grabbed by 148 GTL and tried to make a few contacts, but nothing. I did hear someone out of Corpus Christ Texas on 36 LSB....I responded but they didn't to me, yet they came back on a few more times.
Dx is like the old Military saying " If your enemies in range.. So are you" The way I understand it is.. If you can hear it you can shoot it. But just because someone can heard by you, doesnt insure or guaranty that you will be heard by them.. Too many variables involved.. Keep trying it will happen.Turbo-T wrote:I dont know but I think it comes and goes. I know last night it was rolling, and it was rolling again this morning. If the skip is caused by a sporadic E opening, the ionized cloud will only allow communication to certain areas. It may open up in the mid-west for north-south communications and completely be dead on the east and west coasts.Beybbear wrote:Ok, I was just wondering because I see everyone saying its rolling and I go out and check all the channels and dont hear it.

Do I ever hear skip on the AM???Beybbear wrote:Do you guys ever hear skip on AM? I've been listening lately after I hear everyone talking about skip rolling. Is it only on side band?
well yes, and ill hear it on LSB/USB, FM too.
Dont give up, ive made alot of contacts with alot of the forums members from here and alot of non-members too, in time when the conditions are in your favor, you will make some contacts, i do it on both of my base n my mobiles, i also scan the band, if i cant be heard on one channel, ill try a diffrent channel, most of the time, if its too noisy between ch.1 thru 40, i go down to 26.785am or some place not as crowded and shoot some DX, beleive ounce ya start to make some contacts, it will become very additive, u will quit talking to the local for a time or two just to shoot some skip, Have Fun!!!, Happy DX'ing...Dj

You will just keep trying and you will eventually catch conditions right and you will make contact.Turbo-T wrote:I think you can shoot skip on AM, but every time i try no one responds.

Re:
Because someone reports an opening doesn't mean the band is open everywhere. For instance, here in Colorado Springs I might be able to work the east coast and yet people in NM or AZ may not hear anything.Beybbear wrote:Ok, I was just wondering because I see everyone saying its rolling and I go out and check all the channels and dont hear it.

Re:
That is incorrect. A friend of mine in Sierra Vista as recordings of FM stations from all over the U.S. The one my wife likes to listen to is of the station he received from Sydney, MT where my wife is from. He even has video of TV signals coming from Australia. It just doesn't happen every often.TheTeZ wrote:fm skip.... whats the fun in that.... supposedly FM (and TV) will only skip 100 to 150 miles.

Im in oregon btw, more than 150 miles away,
Oh yeah well I was running 5kw Bird kinda like CW mode. And yes I was on my big quad.
We jumped up to FM because we had a great conversation when Captn. Crunch kept breaking in to talk and for some reason wouldn't shut up.
Alot of the BOYZ were a bit upset over it,
