Re: Pills
more then likly they are a old version of a motorolla 1446 transistor.. or pill as people like to call them, my guess is that because you said it has the m on it, and it looks and sounds like you are pretty on the money of the power output of a m 1446. and i think but not sure a 1446 can draw around 4 to 6 amps per pill, all depends how hard you drive the amp. that being a 2 x 1446 it should really not pull more then 15 amps. good luck hope that helps you. a old tech could prob look at them and tell u for sure... ny 221 northeast corner.. u can catch me on the bowl ch 6 with the maul dropped down haha

Tricky question! Guess you have some variables..how they are volted & how they are driven? poss swr?? RMS, or swing watts?goldeneagle wrote:HOW MANY WATTS CAN YOU GET OUT OF A 2PILLS 2 2990

Re: Pills
A pair of 2290's will give you anywhere from 180 to 250 W out depending on drive power and DC voltage. Typically with 13.8VDC and let's say 4W drive, you will get around 200 W out. 14.VDC will give you even more.

Re: Pills
Does the newer kl 400 amps have the newer green circuit board?? The green boards seem to be better to me. My kl 200 has the new board compared to the old ones. (Ready to use)I believe on the old tan boards you had to remove a chip to use on 11 meters. I want the kl 400 but I want to make sure it has been redesigned like all the others. Wood like to see it in the blue color as well. Does anyone know if they are changing colors on all their amps or just some of them?

2sc2990 or equivalent out of circuit testing of diode bridges
Base to emitter will show a resistance in one direction only.
Base to collector will show a resistance in one direction only.
Emitter to collector should show open both ways.
any other readings it is either open or shorted

Re: Pills
Yeah it's a pill, and a good one. The SD1446 was designed for SSB. Two of them are used in RM's KLV 550 which was a good amp but I overdrove it and it died.

Re: Pills
Hey fletch57, I would lower your dead key to 2 watts and see if it keys up, and what the key up watts are, the 1446 transistors don't like a lot of dead key wattage as far as I know, may sound better with a lower dead key unless the amp calls for a 4 wat dead key.
