Best amp under 300W
Not looking to compete in the ch. 6 Super Bowl, just want to put a few extra mice in the wheel when conditions are less than 5-9. Running a GE Superbase at 4w/12w (not peaked/tuned), D-104, and a 3 element beam for 12m up a 50' tower. Got a 300w tuner (MFJ-941D) for the difference. SWRs are always 1.2 to 1 or less. Any thoughts on what amp would best compliment my setup? Not looking to attract attention from Charlie or blow up the tuner. BTW-Have an Astron RS-50M power supply for my HAM setup. Appreciate your advise in advance.

Sorry jon but they aren't a sponsor so I had to edit it, needless to say they never have anything in stock anyway. Try GI Joe's for the same item, it's only $20 more and I'd bet they have them in stock. After that look up http://www.12voltpowersupplies.us/ , he is a new sponsor here and has the power supply you will need to run the amp.

I like the RM amps. The KL503 gives you around 300 watts and you can usually find them for around $150.00 brand new. They're mosfet AB amps and sound really nice on SSB when driven correctly. I've had one for 4 years now.

Re: Best amp under 300W
Roger that, been eyeing a few of them on ebay. I'm interested in the KL-405v (with fans). Specs say it handles up to 10W AM/20W SSB. I sent an e-mail to RM Italy with a question regarding how much drive power, but they are not good at returning e-mails. So if I drive it with stock 4W AM/12W SSB, will that mean I only get half max. output?silvereagle1 wrote: ↑August 7th, 2017, 12:23 pm I like the RM amps. Re: Best amp under 300W
Did some digging through this forum and most say no more than 1-1/2 to 2W in. BTW, I really like the 6-stage power output adjustment that seems to be missing on many other amps. When talking to locals, setting 1 (50W) should do. When DXing, setting 3 is probably optimal (don't want to run it to max).Turk182 wrote: ↑August 19th, 2017, 8:24 pmRoger that, been eyeing a few of them on ebay.
