Here is another "look it up on the internet". Will it work to check transistors?. That answer is "Yes", does it work is another matter. Should be a 9v battery inside, instruction manual can come off Radio Shacks website.

I have one of these and it works pretty good. have not used it in years now. do not even remember how it works. I believe you hooked up the wires and turned the gain on the front and the light would come on if good. it is a fair meter and some times does not work on some trans. at least my old one was like that. bought one from the auction site that shows esr and tells you in writing if it is good or not. look there for a esr tester. it will show diodes and all other parts for you. only a few dollars and you have to make a case for it.

if you do not find it on Radio Shack look here. they may have it. you did not leave the model number for it.

see if this is the manual for your tester. not knowing the model number I just had to guess at it.

on the auction site they have some esr testers already in a case. some not in a case. so if this link for the shack tester I left you does not work there is some new ones for sale that work real well.
the esr tester will check all parts you have in a radio.

after looking at the meters for you I bought one that looks like it will be pretty good. it has the 2.2 firmware in it and comes with the 3 test leads. even has the factory case for it. it is 21.99 with 3 test leads.
