Re: Scanner
Ha, My dad and uncle had the exact same scanner. Since they lived in different areas, they had different crystals. I remember staring at those chasing lights anticipating which number it would stop on and what exciting things would be said. lolEZ CHOPPER wrote:I just picked this up my uncle had one when I was a kid. Its not picking up I'm sure the crystals need to be changed not sure any info would be great.
Good luck getting it going.

Re: Scanner
You will probably be able to receive some non essential utility frequencies but police and fire are like said before, "Digital", download a scanner app on your smartphone to find the frequencies but getting crystals will be a problem. Looks good so it would make a nice paperweight.

Re: Scanner
I don't see why not. I think it would just be a simple matter of finding which CB frequency crystals you want to replace the ones in the scanner.

Re: Scanner
It probably won't, most old crystal scanners wouldn't go below 50mhz and only used FM receivers.DevilDog66 wrote:I don't see why not. I think it would just be a simple matter of finding which CB frequency crystals you want to replace the ones in the scanner.

Re: Scanner
many police and fire have gone away from anolog into the apco25 digital, BUT their are still many that still do use analog, i happen to have a bcIV and listen to a big city police near me. You need to find your area http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/ and see if their is anything still transmiting using the old anolog system, anything analog will have a pl tone listed. You would be surprised as to how many old systems are still in use.

your bcIII frequency specs are as follows:
low band 30-50 mhz
high band or vhf 146 -174 mhz <------------- within this range you can hear the 2 meter ham band easily as well as public service, my fire department is within this range and still analog
uhf 450 - 470 mhz <------------------------- police and fire, my police department is still hear.
it can only handle crystals in those ranges
the owners manual can be loaded @ http://radiopics.com/1.%20Man ... anual).pdf
