A good class c 4 pill will match up behind the 4600 really well. Ran a setup identical to that for a couple years. A good quality antenna and coax are a must.

I have worked the oilfields for the last 20 years and the Connex is my radio of choice. I have a 3300 in the truck now and it has done fine. The key is to mount it where it will be solid and not bounce around.

If the swr is pegged then it sounds like a ground issue. Check the stud to see if it's not shorting out the system. I know from experience that the heavy duty stud with the allen head set screw in the bottom can be over tighten and this will cause the plastic insulator to break causing a dead short....

The X Force Midnight Special 700 is a 4 pill amp. I would think that as long as you're alternator is in the 135 + range you'll be good. But like mentioned by others, grounding is the key.

I'd just turn the mod pot wide open...most CB shops call that a peak and tune. If you look at the wave form on a scope you will see it is overmodulated but it will sound just fine on the air. You really have to hack on a 29 to make it sound bad. These newer radios take a little more to get trashy t...

In a stock cobra 29 I highly doubt you will over modulate by turning up the pot. Over modulation usually comes from having the modulation limiter removed.

Also need to remember that the SO 239 antenna connector is grounded to the radio's chassis along with the mic connector. Path of least resistant. Plus running a Wilson 1000 is pushing the limits with a 500 Texas Star.

Being able to properly tune the radio will require you have an external power/watt/modulation meter. It's not hard to do but you'll never know exactly what's happening without it. The resistor mod really isn't necessary on a radio like the General Lee. It's pretty much a audio monster by itself.
