Re: Palomar Skipper 300

I love those old Skipper 300 tube boxes. I don't know what people are talking about expensive tubes, have you checked the price of 2sc2879's lately? The tubes plug in and out, with the transistors you have to mess with the soldering in and out along with the other components that blow up when the tr...

Re: Texas Star 667V only produces 300 watts Bird

I have a Motorola RF devices book and it says the MRF454 is a direct replacement for a 2sc2290.
I've never put the spec sheet next to each other and compared them but.........................

Re: Amp stalls P/U truck

You could try turning on your AC when running the amp.
The AC in vehicles usually has a servo that increases the idle
speed to keep the motor from stalling. Some of the older
servos you could adjust the idle too.

Re: Palomar Tx100

The box on the back is a band switch.
I've never seen a TX-100 with one on it
but I've had a TX-50 with one.

Re: Golden Falcon Tube amp

**NON-SPONSOR** just recently had on sale the power transformers for the KLV1000 amps that used 5 6kg6 tubes for $10.00. Buy two of those and you couldn't go wrong!

Re: Big help needed from amp builders.

No, you can't run them at 28 volts.
They may work if you supply 12 volts but they
won't work well.
The turns ratio for the transformers are dependent
upon the supply voltage.

Re: Cobra 2000 fequency counter problem

Check for bad solder joints. I just went through several frequency counter units. Look at the point where the input frequencies come into the box and the 501 and 502 inductors. I tried to resolder the joints but the iron acted like a solder wick pulling all of the solder off of the joint. There was ...

Re: variabble power

Hi, On your Grant XL the variable power pot is in the back right corner of the component side of the circuit board. The quick and dirty way is to drill a hole in the cover so you can put your screwdriver in. Another way to do it is remove the variable pot from the board. Unsolder the two non grounde...

Re: Bad Pills?

For anybody working on amps they need a simple test tool called a RF Probe. Do a search for the schematic, very simple to make and use. Once you have it it is simple to test and see where the RF is going and what it is doing. Monk

Re: rectifier diode

That diode is there to protect your amp when hooking it up backwards. It is supposed to blow the fuse when the voltage is reversed. The problem is that they used a 6 amp diode and a 40 amp fuse! They do the same thing in the radios using a 1amp diode and 3amp fuse. If your fuse didn't blow your tran...
