Re: Disregard previous question. Decided to drill hole in roof....maybe

I will never hesitate to drill a hole again. I've wasted tons of time and money trying to get a good setup without drilling and it just isn't worth it. From now one every new car will have a hole drilled immediately. In fact, I might do it while I'm on the test drive then see if I can negotiate a lo...

Re: Disregard previous question. Decided to drill hole in roof....maybe

Well, one year later I started from scratch. Drilled a hole in the roof for a Wilson 1000 antenna connected to a Ranger 2970N4. Setup is working great. No issues with grounding or standing wave. Thanks for everyone's replies!

Re: Disregard previous question. Decided to drill hole in roof....maybe

Thank you for the reply JesseJamesDallas. Is there a reason that would be true for the roof and not for the trunk lid? I am so lost right now.

Disregard previous question. Decided to drill hole in roof....maybe

Earlier I asked about grounding an antenna connected to a park mount from Jerry on the trunk of my 2013 accord. I have destroyed that mount trying to get ground wires attached. The only option I see you left is to drill a hole and mount a puck on the roof. Can I do this if I have both a moon window ...

Please help a dummy understanding bonding

I have a 2013 Honda Accord 4 door with one of those 2" pucks made by Jerry mounted on the trunk with a Predator 10K antenna connected to a Galaxy DX 959. SWR is above 3 across the board. Know I need to ground the antenna but not sure how. Previous attempts have failed. 1. Closest ground point I can ...

Re: Help grounding a mobile antenna

I ordered two mounts. One for a cb and another for a 2 meter / 70 cm radio. The mounts should arrive Friday. You're absolutely right, Jerry makes some amazing quality mounts. Thanks for the advice on drilling. So you ordered 2 **NON-SPONSOR** mounts? If so good deal. Good mounts. And the sirio 5000 ...

Re: Help grounding a mobile antenna

An update to my situation. On day 5 my Wilson lip mount set screws slipped off the lip mount causing the antenna to bounce around the roof while driving at high speed. Thankfully everything stayed attached and nothing hit another car. I ordered a second Wilson lip mount (I'm a slow learner) and it a...

Re: Help grounding a mobile antenna

MDYoungblood, just a couple questions about your response. No local store has stainless steel tape. I found it online but there are 2 types. One has a conductive adhesive; the other a non-conductive adhesive. Which one should I use? Did you apply the tape just where the mount was attached or to as m...

Re: Help grounding a mobile antenna

Bombereo, the paint has been removed and the set screws are as tight as I can possibly get them. Thanks. MDYoungblood, are you referring to the bolts in the attached picture? If so, I tested with a magnet and it barely stuck. I don't know if this was because of the paint which I will remove or becau...

Help grounding a mobile antenna

I have just installed a new Wilson 1000 trunk lip mount antenna onto the back trunk edge (against the window) of a 2013 Honda Accord. As expected, my SWR even after tuning the antenna is unacceptable most likely due to poor ground. I know I need to run a ground strap to the chasis but my question is...
