Re: Citizens Band Radio – License Proposal

Perhaps I read into what you said, if so appologies... The DB My point was simply this. If someone has taken the time to become a HAM, and has access to frequencies from 23cm to 160m, then why all the attention to the 11m band? Most HAM operators were CB operators who left the 11m band for a pletho...

Re: Citizens Band Radio – License Proposal

This would surly be the last nail in the CB coffin. Those who didn't leave radio altogether for IMs and SMS have moved on to HAM since code was dropped. Forcing the remaining CB community to licensure would likely be the end of it altogether. BTW, there are licsenced frequencies that you can use to ...

Fiberglass antennas can be continuously, center or top loaded and not all fiberglass antennas are crap.

This guy isn't running huge power so there is no need for an open coil antenna. A hard mounted based load antenna in the center of his roof is a hard to beat setup.

I just thought of something that may help you visualize this. I've owned both the 2995dx and the 2970n2 RCI radios. The 2995 is a single final board and the 2970 is a dual final board. They both have an (8) IRF520 final PA. 1 driving 8 or 2 driving 8. You have (2) 520's, driving (1) 520, driving (8)...

I believe that amp is designed to put out those numbers on the high settings. I believe that amp is poorly designed imo. If you turn your radio up to pull the relay in you're over driving. You'll have to drop the radio as low as it will go and still pull the relay in, then turn the power level down. Re: Dead Key question

I just googled that amp, it's (1) 520, driving (8) 520's!! I'd stay 200w peak or less and certainly 50w carrier or less. That may only be 1/2w or so of drive carrier. If you are keying that thing at 150w, you won't do it for too long! That amp would work good with a 4w am/12 ssb type accepted radio....

General rules are fine, but instead of wondering just worry about what the amp is doing, not the radio. Some people probably never check the carrier level of their radio, just set the radio to key the amp @ around 50w. You have (2) 100w devices in that amp and the carrier should be 1/4 of that. 200w...
