Try to get the lowest SWR on channel 19/20 then balance out the SWR on channel 1 and 40. Looking at the pics you might want to be a little farther away from the antenna. Kudos on the setup. BTW, who's chair did you use?

The only thing that really matters is keeping the same value as the one you remove and the voltage the same or higher, I've used different spacing on the contacts/leads, just makes it harder to set in place.

Was it doing this before the cap change, possible bad (new) cap showing up. Did you change out the tantalum caps in the receive section as well, they can be replaced with electrolytic of the same value. Last check the wiring, make sure all the connectors are tight.

I'm guessing you meant a General Lee HP40W, I don't see any benefit from doing this, the radio is a single mosfet final driving the 4 mosfet amplifier. In the worst case it would possibly overdrive the amp and sound terrible, most likely popping a couple of fet's.

I would say bare minimum would be 14A, I would go with larger to give the radio some breathing room so a 20A supply would work fine. Check out the sponsor's for prices on both, GI Joe's site normally has a recommendation for a power supply.

As a rule the 811 is a SSB/CW amp but it will do well on AM, just don't think that it is like a class C CB amp that will give you loads of swing modulation. Keep it under 50W AM carrier with some swing and it should do fine. Using it for AM is going to shorten the life of the tubes.
